Doris and Meg
OK, I admit it...I am a huge Doris Day fan. If Doris is on TV, I am watching. She's "too sweet" for a lot of people, but I just like her; I like her singing and I like her smile, and I even like the silly mugging she did in so many of her movies. So last week I was watching a Meg Ryan movie, French Kiss, and it struck me: all of Meg Ryan's romantic comedy roles were Doris Day roles! French Kiss, Sleepless in Seattle, You've Got Mail, Joe Versus the Volcano...all are roles that Doris would have been wonderful in! Even Meg's "silly mugging" is classic Doris Day schtick. Which I guess is why I like Meg Ryan's movies so much. So... how about, using CGI (Computer Generated Imagery), we redo (just for example) Who's Got Mail, replacing Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks with Doris Day and Rock Hudson?! That would be so cool. My dad was a huge fan of computer animation and had friends in the Commodore Amiga community who did a lot of breakthrough CGI animation at home, and he always said that computer animation would be mature when someone is able to make a brand new John Wayne movie that would be indistinguishable from an original "Duke" film. So why not do the same with Doris and Rock?
